We celebrated my Grandpa Boone’s 85th birthday, this was what brought us to the states in the first place, a big ol’ shindig with all the family there. I made a book for him, of his life and memories of all the guests.
We drove my mom’s new convertible hardtop around the old freeways and walked along the beach. Alfonso was also on the clock for work, so it wasn’t a vacation strictly speaking, but we found time to do some lovely things as well. Such as—
snacking in old-school style at French 75, and visiting the Queen Mary, the boat that took my Grandpa to war.
Aerial view of Queen Mary and Long Beach harbor (from our plane), and interior of the Deco bar.
We also hosted yet another party, this time at lovely Michelle and David’s Echo Park house, christening their backyard pizza oven. That would be number two of five parties we hosted on this trip, not including Boone’s. Never again, she said with a firm smile.
