~goodbye to all that~

July 6th, 2010

Last night in New York as a resident. Friends braved the 102 heat and introduced me to El Quijote, an old-school Spanish place tucked under the Chelsea Hotel thats been serving fresh seafood, tall cocktails, and superb flan since the 1930s.

Tim, Katherine, Harry Smith, William S. Burroughs and Andy Warhol at the Quijote.

Goodbye to all that!

I’m catching up on your blog…oh so many great posts! Did you read Patti Smith’s memoir Just Kids yet? It’s BRILLIANT and inspiring. There are a couple of great scenes in The Quixote – She would meet William Burroughs at the bar there; she and Mapplethorpe would scavenger for lobster shells on the finished plates of diners, so that they could spray paint them silver and make them into jewelery; my favorite though was when she walked in one night and there, seated at different tables, were Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and the entire band of Jefferson Airplane. In smaller news, I took Graham there for his birthday one year. I want to go back! Goodbye to all that! xo
