One-time resident Duke Ellington sang, “You must take the A Train, to go to Sugar Hill way up in Harlem…” but we prefer the red line. First day on the outskirts of Sugar Hill, cultural hub of the Harlem Renaissance. Its poet laureate Langston Hughes wrote: “I stay cool and dig all jive, that’s the way I stay alive. My motto, as I live and learn, is dig and be dug in return.”
