~signs of spring~

April 3rd, 2014

First signs of Lower East Side spring: Katz’s hottie winked while handing me egg salad on rye.

Sunbeams over Orchard Street! Samuel Beckenstein was likely the inspiration for 1930s novelty song, Sam, You Made the Pants Too Long. Hear Babs sing it here.

Actual shadows! Picked up our new readers from family-run Moscot, whose founder, Hyman Moscot arrived from Eastern Europe via Ellis Island in 1899 and got his start selling eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street.

Mustard sundial at 1pm.
