It took three trips to the Associazione Arzanà before we managed entrance, and it was worth it. Paolo Peretti–whose great grandfather established the site (if I understood correctly the Italian he spoke to Alfonso)–showed us fanali (lanterns), forcole (oar rests), and an 1880s gondola tucked in a space where gondolas were built and repaired from 1400 until 1920, and which now houses a society for the preservation and restoration of all manner of Venetian vessels.
